Dr. Kassel treats a wide range of sporting injuries. He is an avid athlete who enjoys surfing, mountain biking and fitness so has an innate understanding of the athlete and their specialised needs for recovery. He has competed at an elite level representing the USA in bandy (similar to ice-hockey). He has also been the team doctor for many sporting teams, most recently taking care of the Southland Sharks of the NZ NBL and being part of two national championship teams.

Dr Kassel has a keen interest and extensive experience in shoulder surgery with arthroscopic shoulder surgery a focus of his practice after specialising in this technique during his fellowship.

Dr Kassel also has a special interest and extensive experience in knee surgery, especially arthroscopic surgery.
After completing his fellowship, knee arthroscopy has been a focus of his private practice. He also performs total knee replacements.
